From Oxygen Bars To Oxygeneo: How Pure Oxygen Is Being Used To Look Younger

by Hector Holland

In the early nineties, oxygen "bars" started cropping up all over Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, New York City, etc. The idea was that inhaling pure oxygen and placing your face over pure oxygen mask machines caused the body to speed up the process of removing the free radicals and air pollution that caused your skin to age more rapidly. The oxygen bars are still around, but new aesthetic skin procedures using oxygen have cropped up as well. Processes such as Oxygeneo facials and micro-oxygen blasts to pores are in use to try to help you look younger. If you are curious as to how pure oxygen can make you look younger, the following is provided.

All of Your Cells Need Oxygen

There is not a single cell in the human body that does not need oxygen. Every organ in your body needs oxygen to function properly. In addition to cells and organs, you should know that your skin is considered an organ, and it is also considered the largest organ of the human body. That said, it should not surprise you that your skin needs oxygen just as much as the rest of you and that your skin "breathes." The pores in your flesh send sweat and steam out, and the hairs all over your body help move cooler air towards the pores. Unfortunately, exposure to air pollution and free radicals affect your skin's health and its ability to absorb adequate oxygen. Hence, your skin does not get enough oxygen, and it begins to wrinkle.

Cleaned Pores Are Open to Accepting Oxygen

When you use a warm, wet towel to clean your face, your pores open up. They are releasing the impurities, but they are also "breathing" in clean air. You can feel this on your face with the way your skin reacts to the air after your skin is cleaned. If you could introduce your skin to a procedure that cleans, exfoliates, and blasts it with pure oxygen (which your skin needs anyway), you would probably want to try it. That is exactly where the concept for this procedure came from.

Breathing Oxygen vs. Blasting Oxygen

The oxygen facials allow you and your skin to breathe in the oxygen that everything inside your body needs. It does not do too much for your skin outside your body. That is why special machines were created to blast your face, neck, and chest with pure oxygen so that your skin could reap some of the same benefits that breathing in the oxygen provides.
